1873
Blackrod School (Founded 1568) was united with Rivington.
This unification led to the building of a new school.3th May 1875
The scheme for the amalgamation of the 2 schools was approved by Her Majesty
Queen Victoria.
The site was purchased from Mr. Shaw of Rivington (Ancestral line Asshaw.
The New School was built on the site of 3 Rivington farms, as a boarding school
for boys. (changed to secondary school with the expansion of industrial expansion
in the area).
23 January 1882
The new Rivington and Blackrod Grammar School opened with 30 scholars.
The school in the village then became an Elementary School.
1883
A new Chemical laboratory was added at a cost of 800 Pounds
1892
The Chapel was added . The gift of Mr.and Mrs Daniel Marshall (of Magee Marshall
brewers) in memory of his son Frederick Marshall. Originally to seat 100 but
now accommodates approx. 170.
1912
East Window of Chapel installed to commemorate the Founder of the School, Bishop
Pilkington.
8th. March 1922
The West Window,Our War Memorial was unveiled.
April 1929
Work commenced to add extensions to the back of the school for a New Assembly
Hall Gymnasium , Domestic Science, Physics, Chemistry, Art, and Woodworking
rooms.
1939 to 1945
During the War Years uniforms were not mandatory, staff and pupils carried out
fire watches, parties spent their summer holidays in camps helping with harvesting
of crops.
1940 - 1941
The school was guest to a contingent of pupils from Wallasey Grammar.
1941
The nearest bomb was dropped in Lever Park Avenue in (approx. 200yds from the
school). During this period no School Photographs were taken due to a shortage
of photographic material.
Early 70's
With legislation by the government the school changed first to a Comprehensive
School and later on to the current High School when new buildings were built
on the field at the side of the existing school.
In 2004
A further window in the Chapel was dedicated to Mr. Jenner who was headmaster
for 25 years.
